What went down at the first #MWEBGG - Powered by MSI
This past weekend saw the inaugural MWEB Gaming Gathering event (powered by MSI Gaming South Africa) hosted at the MWEB Head Office in Cape Town. With pizza supplied by Debonairs Pizza and drinks covered by Reboost Energy Drink, there was plenty of fuel to keep the attendees going.
And that fuel proved necessary as a full evening saw speakers speak, games played, and food and beverages consumed, with giveaways, well, given away. There was plenty of socialising and chatting which – let’s be honest – is a much-needed activity in local gaming.
The guest speakers included Grant Hinds, Jade Klein (Valhalla 2.0), Gareth Woods, Derrick Kaylor (MWEB), Nick Holden (ACGL) and Bryon Trent (MSI), all of which entertained and informed attendees through the evening, with a variety of topics covered. On the speaker’s minds were topics ranging from getting more females involved in gaming locally to connectivity challenges facing gamers, along with esports, industry growth and streaming. The talks ended with an engaging Q&A discussion featuring the entire panel and all attendees.
Derrick Kaylor had the following to say regarding the MWEB Gaming Gathering:
"MWEB is proud to be part of this amazing event. We are also grateful for the positive sentiment around and on the day. I would like to thank the ACGL team, Ryno, our speakers (Grant, Jade, Gareth, Nick and Byron), our sponsors (Reboost Energy Drink, Debonairs Pizza and MSI) and to everyone that spend their Friday night with us. ACGL and MWEB Gaming team will now focus our energy towards the next MWEB GG event. Looking forward to seeing you there soon!"
MSI Gaming ensured that some of the most recent game releases put their best side forward with a variety of high-end laptops and desktops on demo. Anthem and Apex Legends got plenty of air time, while Metro Exodus was also available to try. Anthem and Metro also featured in the giveaways during the evening, with three lucky winners all getting a new title for their library. This was only possible thanks to the support of local distributors Prima Interactive and Apex Interactive for the event.
MSI Gaming's Byron Trent had the following to say:
"Really well executed event by ACGL, thanks to all the guests and partners who helped us with this initiative. Looking forward to the next!"
We do still have one more winner of Anthem for PC to announce. For snapping a selfie on the red couch at #MWEBGG and posting it on social media... Kirstin Buick walks off with the game. Congratulations to all the winners from the event.
Importantly, thanks to selling out of tickets for the event, we managed to raise R2,280 for Hospice. The full house also ensured that the event’s hashtag trended on Twitter. This is all very likely to mean we will be seeing you with the second event sooner rather than later.
You can find our photo album from the event here, and a photo album from Zombiegamer here.
The ACGL management team would like to thank all the sponsors, partners, attendees and crew for assisting in bringing the event to life. The first #MWEBGG was an overwhelming success and thanks to all of your support we will have more information on the next one soon!
